  1. As all know the Berlin Wall is a popular subject these days.
Is there any East Germans reading this forum who can answer a question I have had since the 70's when I and my wife was in East Berlin for a day. We passed the border which took a very long time. When we came over we were hungry and wanted to have something to eat. We did not want to eat at the TV-tower but walked away from AlexanderPlatz and found a little Gaststätte. They had a menu and people were eating there, but they did not want to serve us. They just pointed at AlexanderPlatz.
Of course one could at once see that we were westerners, but to this day we donot understand why they did not want our money.
We were very hungry when we finally sat down at the restaurant att AlexanderPlatz. However it took a couple of hours to get the food there.
Of course at that time we considered the day to be spoilt and we regretted that we went ourselves to East Berlin. We should have taken the sightseeing tour as everybody else, but I had been on the bus tour before so we would do something new. Nowadays we really consider it to be a very good memory and experience to look back at.
However can someone explain why we did not get any food?
