    Hi all,
When I create my own 5.1 mixes and author the DVDs, I check various apps to verify that they've been detected as 5.1. Well, they do and they don't. For instance, the apps mentioned in the subject line will list that the audio is 6-channel. However, these apps seem to have trouble detecting other aspects of the stream, such as the language. There will be things like question marks, "unspecified", etc. I'm using Soft Encode to encode the channels to an AC3. I've tried using DVDFlick to author the DVDs. Does anyone know what might be causing this problem? I'd like to have everything properly recognized.
I attached an example pic of the sort of thing I'm referring to.
Thanks for any help you can provide,
    tarf

P.S. - Yes, I know that the example pic shows 2 channels, rather than 6.

you would need to manually change the language using something like ifoedit on the ifos if you made the audio yourself.

  3. The programs that get the information from the IFOs won't know what it is unless you set it in the IFOs. Open PGCEdit and hit the green reel of film icon in the row of icons near the top right. If you hold the mouse over it it says "domain streams attributes". In the Streams attributes screen that opens up you can set the number of channels and language for the audio, and the language for the subtitle. OK back to the main screen and File->Save DVD

    Thanks. I appreciate your replies.
I tried both Ifoedit and Pgcedit.
While it initially looks a bit intimidating to a new user, such as myself, I decided to stick with Ifoedit... and it worked
    Thanks again,

  5. Glad you got it. I thought I had detailed the PGCEdit steps clearly and simply, but reading over it I left out an important step. For future reference, here is the revised version:

Open the DVD in PGCEdit, highlight the movie, and hit the green reel of film icon in the row of icons near the top right. If you hold the mouse over it it says "domain streams attributes". In the Streams attributes screen that opens up you can set the number of channels and language for the audio, and the language for the subtitle. OK back to the main screen and File->Save DVD

Okay. Thanks for the heads-up. I'll keep that in my notes, just in case I decide to use Pgcedit
