 Hi guys im a newbie to this forum although i have been using this site to get tutorials etc on ripping dvds which i have done with excellent results.
I am alos new to this capturing scene like wanting to put family party videos from vhs to vcd, i have just brought a "dazzle digital video creator usb one from ebay it is in excellent condtion and just like brand new
I had a few probs installing it but got round to it and was ok...i went to the dazzle site and there was an update regarding the dazzle dvc usb for windows xp..but it was saying thaty you needed moviestar 4.2 something.. :-? i don't know what that is as all i have is something called dazzle dvc internet edtion..which is a software as you will no more about this than me it is 3.62...it was on the dazzle cd that came with the dazzle dvc usb.
So do i need to upgrade to moviestar...? if so where can i get it from..or can i download it from somewhere is it nesesary to have this :-? will other software do the job like adobe premiere 6 and any other editing software that i could try...sorry for asking soo much but if you can help me that would be much appreciated
So yesterday i tried to see if i could download a fottage which was about 3mins on my camcorder and download it to my laptop using the dazzle...all went well and i downloaded or transfered it to the laptop...i couldn't get the sound thing to come out so i must have been doing something wrong :x i used the svideo on the camcorder and connected it to the dazzle and had it preveiwed on my television as well....but whan it had finished transfering onto my laptop and when i played it back in mediaplayer there was no sound...why was this i must have not connected something i guess :-?
When i try to veiw the footage on my laptop using the dazzle software which is called "dazzle dvc internet edition" i can see it in the workspace when clicking on the bottom open/close album pannel and then when i click on the file which is called test.mpg on the left i get this mesg which reads "File not found c:\program files\dazzle dvc usb\media\clips\clip1.mpg..details the system cannot find the file specified :-?"
hence i can open this file in media player.
why do i get this mesg for..? in the quickstart guide it says that you are able to veiw the file in the dazzle dvc
The file which i got from the camcorder footage when played back in media player and vewing it in full screen is not very clear what i mean by this is that its a little fuzzy and blocky...but when played in small screen it is very clear...my screen resolution on my laptop is 1600*1200 i dont knw if that is to make a difference.
My camera has a firwewire link so will that give a better pict if i tried to transfer the footage straight to the laptop alone without using the dazzle..?
Also what settings do i have to use to transfer a vhs family video to the laptop via the dazzle dvc usb...if i want the maximum picture and sound quality..?
I would like to edit the videos when i have all this done what is a good peice of software that can do this and add special effects etc...are there any other softwares that will support the dazzle dvc usb instead of the software i got with it which was "dazzle dvc usb internet edition 3.62".
I will be greatfull to the replies, or any solutions that you can give me :)
thx again for reading this...as it is quite looong

WHY THE HELL WOULD You..
b(tch down your original DIGITAL VIDEO and transfer it through your Dazzle DVC I which treats it as an analogue source instead of the digital format that it is. WHAT YOU DID: DV -> Analogue -> digital [HORRIBLE middleman]
what SHOULD have happened
DV -> DV No loss in quality, a direct dump of your video onto your computer
You just wasted your money on that DVC I. Unless you have an INSANE amount of videos to encode.
You would get extremely better results if you transferred your DV video directly to your laptop as DV video and not compressed through MPEG which is why the video on your laptop was not as clean as the original in your camera.
I don't know much about laptops and firewire options for laptops, but I'm assuming you bought your camera at a retail store where the camera would have come with a firewire port [PCI most likely] for your computer.
If your laptop has a firewire port, then use THAT to bring in your video for editing. Bringing your video via a Dazzle was the wrong thing to do. You need to bring in your DV video from your camcorder to a computer through a firewire port, that way you will have the freedom to choose from the many editors out there i.e. Adobe Premiere to edit, cut, add transitions sounds, .......etc.
Bringing in your video through your Dazzle automatically creates MPEG files which are very hard to manipulate. Adding titles, transtitions, .....etc is going to be much harder than if you did it with DV avi video.
As for your other rants, in my experience with laptops ; laptops generally tend NOT to have a Line In and usually only a MIC IN. You did not mention whether or not you used the Dazzle's RCA audio to 1/8 converter to plug in the sound from the Dazzle to your laptop. Let me slow things down for YOU you take the RED and WHITE cable that has a very smaller tip at the other end and plug that into the MIC IN port on your laptop; then you go to your MovieStar software and goto the Audio configuration portion of the software and change the source from Line In to MIC IN.
Did you actually take the time out of your precious life to LOOK through the Dazzle website? *pat* sure you did
because then you would have noticed that Dazzle has posted all the updates from 3.x to 4.22 on their website
Can't remember what idiot that thought you needed to send Dazzle $40 dollars for a CD with the updates to MovieStar on them.
