  1. Hello!

I'm sure this question has been covered, but I didn't feel like reading through 190 pages of posts to get an answer and I'm hoping some of you could help.

How do you know which format (VCD, SVCD, XVCD) to burn? Can you tell by the file name? Is there a program that tells you what format the original file should be burned in? Can you simply tell by the name of the file?

For example, I have Clockwork Orange (XDVD-L580).avi and I want to burn the file in a format that would take full advantage of any features.

Another simpler question that I have is whether or not there is a way to determine a file's framerate other than using Windows Media Encoder and then selecting the closest value on TMPGEnc? I find this rather tedious as you sometimes have to wait a while before you get the correct frame rate as it increases slowly. Somehow, I'm worried I'm sometimes rushing the job and picking a lower framerate than I should. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

  2. Open Virtual Dub, open file and hit file information. It will give you all the information you need.

Which format depends of what you want. There are advantages and disadvantages to XVCD, VCD and SVCD. Some DVD players have no problems playing XVCDs ancd SVCDs and others don't. If you have a Sony like me, you have edit it in TMPGenc and burn it as non-compliant VCD.

Look over on the left for format differences. For me its XVCD or SVCD.
