Haven't had this problem before. Transferring some Digital8 video to DV via Firewire, I find I'm getting intermittent, brief audio dropouts. Same issue capturing both with Pinnacle Studio and WinDV. Using a brand new tape. The video image is fine. The audio dropouts occur in the same place with both Pinnacle and WinDV.
However, when I listen to the audio through the cam's headphone jack, it sounds fine and when I record the audio as analog output to Soundforge, the sound is fine. No dropouts.
This is the first time I've encounteed this. Any idea why this would be happening?
Thanks.

How's the audio if you connect the analog output of the camcorder to a regular TV and listen to it that way? This will help narrow down a FireWire capture issue vs. tape issue.

Sounds fine, just as when I record the analog output as outlined above. Which is what I ended up doing for this particular project - recorded the analog sound output and aligned it with the video. But I still want to get to the bottom of why it's happening. I don't recall encountering this issue before.Originally Posted by JohnnyMalaria

Something to do with "same place". Any more details? What was the source?Originally Posted by brassplyer

Details are outlined in the original post. Oiginal Digital8 footage from cam to computer via Firewire. I've never had this happen before either.Originally Posted by edDV

Must have been a glitch while recording. You can always prove this by using a second camcorder for transfer. If it does the same, you have limited options from there.Originally Posted by brassplyerRecommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

If that were the case I would think it would show up in the analog sound as well. Of course, I'm going under the assumption that the way the cam generates analog audio is through an onboard D/A converter, that it doesn't record a separate analog audio track.Originally Posted by edDV
