  1. I keep hearing how its better to use MPC HT instead of VLC Player but when I do the ATi Xpress 1100 driver keeps crashing and recovering

VLC plays back perfectly without need for any codecs either

I have K-Lite Codec Full installed (latest version) and running windows 7 RC 7100

It could be multiple issues. First, it's typically recommended to NOT use codec packs. Second, MPC and VLC each install their own codecs, so no codec pack is needed. Since VLC is working, and MPC isn't it is likely a conflict between one of it's codecs and your video driver.

The most obvious issue you are likely having, is with your video driver, especially since you are using Windows 7. Check to see if ATI has released an official or updated video driver for your card and Windows 7.
