I have an XviD video that I want to play on my standalone DVD player. I have a DivX compatible DVD player (Sony DVP-NS38). So I just burned the XviD video file on my DVD+RW and played it on my DVD player. The problem is the quality - it is sometimes blocky and not as good as on PC. Would it help if I would convert the XviD video to DivX?
EDIT: I know I could solve the problem by converting the avi to DVD but that would lose some quality, right? plus just burning the avi is much faster.

probably not. on the computer it's much smaller. as you increase the viewing size, the defects of low bitrate video and bad encoding become more apparent.

re-encoding would only cause the loss of more quality.

I'm pretty sure the quality should be better. the bitrate is 2032 by the way, maybe that could be a problem for the DVD player..

The Xvid file may use optional MPEG 4 part 2 features that your player doesn't support. You can use something like AviRecomp to recompress with settings that won't cause problems. Any time you recompress with a lossy codec you will lose some quality. Use sufficient bitrate and the losses won't be too bad.

You can't fix this problem by converting, but you'll learn after you try. In fact there is no fix for this problem unless you can re-encode the original video yourself from the source and do a better job.
