I have 2 computers, both running 10.5.6 with Quicktime Pro 7.6, QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, Flip4Mac WMV Player Pro and Perian on both.

On the G5 I can read and convert VOB files in ffmpeg, VLC and HandBrake without problems. On the MBPro, the new computer, I have installed all of these components and registered the appropriate ones, But HandBrake says "No valid source found", ffmpeg says "no video" and VLC cannot play the VOBs. All this on the same file.

I have reinstalled everything on the MBPro without effect. What should I do now? I would really like to get the MBP going as it converts VOBs 2-4 time faster than the G5. Doen permission repair, cache cleaning etc...

I am converting PAL discs to NTSC, editing the results with QT Pro and using Toast to burn DVDs.

    And advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Bill

are you sure your files are still valid? (maybe damaged during transfert from G5 to MBP?)

You have the Apple Mpeg2 component, so did you try to open your .vob with MPegStreamClip?
    If it fails ...
the Apple Mpeg2 codec is different on PPC & intel, but you can force MPSC to "open as a Rosetta (=PPC) application" (finder, command-i before launch it)

    bye

PS: none of your softs do standard conversions, use MPSC (does a basic standard conversion) or better, use a specialized soft like JESDeinterlacer
    For DVD, iPad, HD, connected TV, … iMovie & FCPX? MovieConverter-Studio 3 (01/24/2015) - Handle your camcorder's videos? even in 60p or 60i? do a slow-motion? MovieCam.

I believe Herve is right.....When you buy the QT Mpeg-2 Component
from Apple, Apple gives you both the version for PPC and the
version specifically for Intel based Macs.

If you did a copy from the G5 to the Intel Machine,
or didn't pay attention when re-installing the
codec, then you may have put the PPC one on the MBP,
and thus it doesn't recognize you have it.
