  1. Burning a SVCD with Nero produced nothing that could be played on my DVD player (A Fisher HTD-5201 which is not on the Compatibility List here) (but it plays Nero's VCDs fine), so upon the advice here I tried it with VCDEasy. When I run VCDEasy with the CDRDAO option selected, I get this error upon starting the program:

"C:\WINDOWS\system32\WnAspi32.dll" not found... This Aspi layer (required by CDRDAO) may be missing or not be installed correctly. CDRDAO support is disabled.

So, I just created a .bin image file and extracted the folders (EXT, MPEG2, SEGMENT & SVCD) to a CDR directly. That didn't play either.

My computer is a new Athlon 1.4 GHz with WinXP Pro.

Any ideaz? Or am I stuck with only VCDs...

Thanks in advance fer yer help...

  2. The ASPI error in VCDEasy is because you do not have a functioning ASPI layer installed on your system, which is a device communication protocol for CD burners that is required by CDRDAO. There is an program called ForceASPI that will install the needed software so that you can burn from VCDEasy with CDRDAO.
Another option would be to burn the .BIN image you created in VCDEasy using Nero. You need to burn the image as a SVCD. Extracting the folders and burning as a data CDR as you did will not work.

  3. Since it is due to a missing dll file, try searching for it in the net and download it to the specified directory.

  4. I tried burning the .bin (that I created with VCDEasy) using Nero's SVCD and that went along successfully, but my player would not play that disc either. It seems to identify it as a VCD but does not play it. Would burning it with CDRDAO change anything?

  9. newenglander, thank you for the compliments!

Regarding ASPI, VCDEasy requires the latest ASPI installed, and not the one from Nero, but the one from Adaptec, unfortunatly it is not easy to get it from their website, so if you want, you can email me, and i'll send it over!

  10. The link above to the xp-aspi drivers are, of course, the same adaptec aspi drivers as I had previously tried where I get :"No qualified Adaptec products have been detected on this system"

Everything works fine (my Nero 5.5.7.2 has an aspi dll) except SmartRipper 2.41 which will rip, but in the begining it says "aspi layer not available".

If the forceaspi doesn't work for windows xp and I can't use the Adapted v4.60 aspi drivers, how do I get a fully functioning aspi layer in windows and not just in Nero or what ever individual programs have it?

Is there any way to bypass the adaptec installer and maybe insert the files in the aspi.zip somewhere (aspi.sys, winaspi.dll, wnaspi32.dll, wowpost.exe)? If that sounds stupid, it is obviously because this goes beyond the scope of my knowledge.

    Or,
I did try putting the adaptec wnaspi32.dll in the windows\system32 folder and SmartRipper wasn't able to unlock the drive with that aspi adapter (even after running PowerDVD first).
But, when I copied the wnaspi32.dll file from Nero into it, SmartRipper seemed to work perfectly fine. Is this a viable alternative? (aspi checker said my aspi layer was not functioning properly)

  11. Email me and i'll send you a ASPI Layer installation that will not give you that message, and it works on all versions of Windows (I tried it myself).
