  2. Personally, I use VirtualDUB 1.3 c (newer versions do not support ASF), then frame serve from VD1.3c to TMPGENC for MPEG encoding.
    Works reasonably well.

I've tried a few (look under Convert on the left side menu) but VirtualDUB 1.3c is the only one that worked well. The next best thing is to use a vid capture program and have it capture the ASF playback but you'd need to loop the sound output back into the line in to capture the sound, and it's very messy. Plus there'd be quality problem if you have slow processor and slow hard drive (skipped frames in playback, dropped frames in recordering)

Another option is to playback the ASF in full screen mode, output them to TV out (if you have it) and record it on your VCR. Then play back the VCR and capture it using your favorite vid capture program.

Unfortunately version 1.3c and older is not available in convenient places because of the copyright M$ owns on ASF And I can't tell you where to find it so all I can suggest is to try your favorite web search engine and look for 'VirtualDUB 1.3c download'

  4. ok i'm gonna post this to show you how to convert asf, wmv, asx files to mpgs.

first open the asf or witchever file it is in TMPGEnc (any version too) and just convert just the video (set it at "system video only") then just wait till its done. oh and for the people who have problems converting the audio in TMPGEnc and if it gives you a audio error, just get goldwave at www.goldwave.com and open the file, then save it as a .WAV file (it may take a while to open the file so just wait a while) also if you set your bass or treble in windows media audio decoder, reset the settings!! because it'll sound like crap once converted to .WAV then you'll have 2 files, a mpg and a WAV now just multiplex those in TMPGEnc and enjoy!!!.
