    hi everyone,
I have an .srt subtitle file that contains italic commands (I edited the sub using Subtitle Workshop)
when I load the .srt file into TDA, it display the sub with the commands in front of it instead of carrying out the command and make it italic (sorry if this sounds confusing)

so I was wondering if there is anyway to solve this problem? like converting the .srt file into another format or something?

SRT doesn't really support formatting, though some applications insert HTML-style codes, as you've found others may not honour them.

If TDA supports SSA or ASS subs, that certainly does support rich formatting. Aegisub is good for editing ASS.

Or you can use Subtitle Creator, and make a SUP file. I think that recognises "styled" SRT.

What is the encoding on the srt file? You might want to try UTF-8 if you can; that may solve the problem.

Also, I don't think TMPGEnc products like html in the srt files, so you should delete any html if it is present.

how do you figure out what encoding is on the srt file and how to change it to UTF-8 it it's not. My sub file doesn't have any html so I don't think that it's the problem.

  6. This is no answer to your question, but maybe it helps nevertheless: You have already used GfD. Why not try to use it here and add the subtitles in sup format? The sup format is already 'images' therefore it supports all formatting options as the program which creates the sup file

I have authored several DVD using GfD, I really like GfD since I can do all kind of cool stuff when creating the menu AND have the subtitles shown up exactly the way I wanted it to be in srt format (no need of converting). As you know, I just have this recent problem with a particular mkv file, I've tried to convert it many different way to make it work with GfD but I failed everytime so I just switched to using TMPGEnc DVD authoring , I've tried to convert it to sup format but it didn't work in TDA.

Open the file with a text editor such as Notepad. Select "Save as..." and you should be able to change the encoding to UTF-8.

EDIT: Just found out italic commands don't work in TDA3. That is, if you're talking about the italic command.

If I want italics in subs, I use Subtitle Creator to make a SUP bitmaps and author with GfD (as its own subtitle renderer doesn't recognise italic text codes).

You should be able to export MPEG or M2V from TDA to use in GfD.
