So I have a movie of about 2.8GB. It's a Blu-Ray rip of The Shining to be specific but that's rather irrelevant. I'd like it to be viewable with QuickTime Player, Front Row, etc...
However, trying to play the file returns a black screen (albeit at the proper resolution) but it does play the sound.
I can play it in VLC, but I rather dislike VLC. VLC tells me the file is "AVC1". I've tried Perian, and AVC1Decoder, neither of which have helped. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.

QT Player is limited in functionality and a poor player. It only supports AVC Main profile.

For example, if you have a video encoded with AVC High, or it has more than 2 b-frames, or b-pyramids or used I8x8 it will have difficulty playing it back, this could explain what you described.

Under Mac, you might try Mplayer or SMplayer if you don't like VLC

You could re-encode it using a QT compatible profile, but you would lose a fair bit of quality
