  1. I guess you are trying to make karaoke VCD yourself.

First you have the video and audio part. And the audio consits of two parts (music only and music + vocal)

Next, there are software to superimpose the lyric on the video, the software also change the color of the lyric per tempo. By the way, this software is pretty expensive. I read from a different forum that it costs about 900$.

  2. whoa talk about a topic being bruoght back from the dead, anyways ktnwin it was a while since my first post and that substation alpha program will create the words (it's kind of frustrating but once you get the hang of it you can make a song in about half and hour to an hour) then you can just use the subtitling plugin in virtualdub to add it to your mpg. And btw the program subtation alpha is free and I beleive there is a link in the tools section. I gave up on the whole thing cause the little lounge where me and my friends go cant play vcd's only cd+g's so if you come across a program for that let me know. Oh yeah and there are freeware programs to remove the voice from most songs but it can sort of mess up the audio. After that I beleive you can use the most basic wave editors to remux to a music only and music + vocal track.

  4. Hi joe-mama,

Actually, to make a karaoke VCD, I could record two different wave files, one with music only and one with vocal. They will be left and right channels of a stereo audio stream. I will mux them with the video part.

    The challenge is to
    1) add lyric to the video (in nice fonts, not just simple subtitle kind of fonts). Can subtitle use user selectable fonts ?
    2) make the words change color (white turning into purple for example) in sync with the music.

Does the substation alpha program do all this?

  5. I know you can use different fonts and as far as having the titles change colour I believe you can have each word change colour but not a sweep through the word. If you want I could send you a .ssa file I made for ice ice baby (actually a pretty fast song) and you should be able to see how it works. The easiest way to do it is to convert the music to I believe an 8 bit mono wav file so that sub script alpha can use it, then you can play and highlight certain portions of the wav file where the words will be. I warn you though, it will take a while to get the hang of it and it's not the most user friendly program. Hang in there and you will be able to make a video that is at least recognizable as a karaoke vcd.
