  3. TSCV doesn't make interactive menus. You might want to look at Ulead's program or Spruce up.

You'll need something close to Sonic's Scenarist.

Let's say you create a menu with 4 hotspots, when you highlight one of the hotpots on your DVD player, you can have it play a selected motion sequence in the middle of the screen.

It supports fully interactive motion menus.

Price is $15,000 for the advanced version, and $22,000 for the pro version.

Video Pack 5 also supports motion menus. I'm not sure if they're fully interactive though.

Reel DVD has limited support for interactive motion menus @ $1,250 (also from Sonic)

  6. is there no freeware/shareware/opensource or <$100 program that can make interactive vcd menus? there are no guides anywhere for making them? i thought it would be as simple as specifiying some x,y coordinates on a menuthat form a ploygon, and linking it to a file or entrypoint on the vcd. is there more to it?

VCD doesn't have interactive menus while playing on anything other than a PC, or CDI player.

The poster asked about DVD menus.

But yes you are correct, to define VCD hot spots, it involves x,y coridantes. Only the Philips CDI players have the cursor control to take advantage of this though. Philips VCD toolkit, and Roxio's Video Pack 5 make true VCD menus with hotspots.

Get I-ON Video CD Player. It's freeware that supports the point-and-click hotspots that are part of the Video CD on CD-i standard. PowerDVD also supports the hotspots (but it's not free).

After all, why let that cool feature of VCD 2.0 Toolkit go to waste?

    You can also:

    1. Make a full motion video menu (maybe with motion-thumbnails of the tracks or chapters),

    2. use a still screenshot of the video as a placeholder in toolkit to draw the hotspots

    3. after the hotspots are drawn, replace the still bitmap with your video menu file.

Of course, it takes a while to learn toolkit...

  10. but there are no stand-alone dvd players that support vcd hotspots?

    nurv,
No, DVD it doesn't. Roxio's Video Pack 5($499) does, however they aren't interactive

    Simon_Haddad,

That still isn't interactive. (I'm thinking the poster was intending on playing the VCD on a set-top DVD player)

That's only a motion menu. Another way that I use with the toolkit, is an avisynth script that will map multiple videos to different quadrants. I usually have 2 motion menus with audio and 30-45 second previews of 6 clips at a time.

Philips included the feature for the use with their CDI players. That's why you can even specify the overlay color for the selected hot spot when the cursor has selected it. But this isn't available for set top players, only CDI players (and some software players).

With a CDI player you can change the x,y corridants for the time display, and even the cursor shape and color. The CDI is what spawned the VCD format.

I believe the poster was talking about interactive DVD like menus, with selectable hot spots controlled by cursor movements. Not just pushing next or number buttons.

STH is another good software player, plus it plays SVCD, and Chao-Ji Video Disc (CVD- China's version before SVCD).
It's also in the Tools Section under VCD,DivX,AVI,MPEG1 Players.
