I have clips that's both in .wmv and .avi and dimensions from 1280X720 to 960X540 and video data rate from 1500kbps to 4000kbps and they all say HD/High Definitions from their studios, are they all correct?

I'm about to convert a bunch of clips and from reading here, Core AVC H264 will provide the best quality and file size...and how does HD/High Definitions come in play with Core AVC? I kept hearing Core AVC is the best for encoding/playing HD? Can I encode any clips from .wmv/.avi using Core Avc?

I'm currently using Avidemux and VirtualDub, how does one incorporate Core AVC into them?

I find that WMA V2 seems to provide the best audio involving conversation in most of my clips, how do I get Avidemux/VirtualDub to use WMA V2 with the following specs?

    Audio
    Format : WMA2
    Codec ID : 161
    Codec ID/Info : Windows Media Audio 2
Description of the codec : Windows Media Audio V9 Standard - 64 kbps, 44 kHz, 16 bit, Stereo (CBR)
    Duration : 11mn 45s
    Bit rate mode : Constant
    Bit rate : 64.0 Kbps
    Channel(s) : 2 channels
    Sampling rate : 44.1 KHz
    Resolution : 16 bits

    Thanks in advance.

  2. CoreAVC is a decoder for h.264 video only. AviDemux has its own h.264 decoder and encoder. If you want to encode to h.264 with VirtualDub you will need to install x264 vfw.

Thanks jagabo, I downloaded x2641028.exe, do I just execute/run it? and it will show up in VirtualDub under video-compression?

I have ffdshow and there is also H.264/AVC libavcodec under VFW, is this the same thing or I'm getting confused?

    Thanks .

  4. I think you downloaded the wrong x264. Follow the links to the VFW version. They will take you here:

    http://downloads.sourceforge.net/x264vfw/x264vfw_14_1024bm_15797.exe

Yes, you can use the h.264 encoder in ffdshow as well. Just select ffdshow from VirtualDub's encoder list and configure ffdshow.

    Thanks again jagabo 8) .

I think my ffdshow/VFW doesn't come with H.264 encoder, right? (attachment)

Thanks for the correct link and now that I downloaded the H.264 x264vfw_14_1024bm_15797.exe, do I just execute it?

  6. It looks like your version of ffdshow doesn't include h.264. On the version I have installed it's on the list just below Xvid.

  7. Yes, if you install the vfw version it should show up in the vdub compression list.

jagabo is correct, your version of ffdshow doesn't include the h264 encoder component. (don't worry, that implementation is very poor quality, and the settings are limited)

Although the newest x264vfw is very updated with a new GUI (i.e. contains all the new developments of the x264 CLI version), you should be aware that when using x264vfw in vdub you are limited to .avi containers, which is not 100% compatible with AVC content. It works most of the time, but some players may not like it.
