I recoded my DV to the DVD format and realize the files are over 4.7GB. I hope not to lost any quality. Is it possible to fit the whole thing to a SL DVD-R?

Not without re-encoding or trimming some video off the ends. A DVD-5 actually holds about 4.37GB. You could use a Verbatim DL+ disc if you don't want to re-encode. A DVD-5 actually holds about 4.37GB. You could use a Verbatim DL+ disc if you don't want to re-encode.

What program did you use to encode/author with?

If you've already authored your project, you could try DVD Shrink and see if the results are acceptable.

What are you converting it to mpg2 with ??

If you use a good encoder you can set the bitrate and have it the right size the first time.

Re-encoding it or transcoding it a 2nd time will decrease the quality.
Small amounts are usually not real noticeable.
It's up to you if you think it is acceptable when it's done.

Use DVD Rebuilder ... works for me ... with the Cinema Craft Encoder SP v2.70.02.12 encoder ... I have the Pro version for a few years now when it only cost $10 .... I use to do 9 passes but everybody here says it is a waste ... so I use 4 Pass ... 5 Pass ... sometimes 6 Pass ... takes about 200 minutes to process a DVD Movie ... after I have used CloneDVD2 to trim out the fat.

I got it to fit a 4.7GB, I am satisfy with the picture and sound quality since it shrinks only a tiny bit.
 Thanks all for your advise.
