  1. anybody can make a try with this ?
    - download the latest quicktime
    - play any 5.1 trailers from "apple trailers" (fantastic 4, silver surfer is a good test)
    => under ithune it works
    => under quicktime player the sound is downmixed to stereo

    and before you ask, yes, I set the quicktime player conf in 5.1 mode.

    i'm on a laptop with a 5.1 sound card (soundblaster live or aureon MKII)

    all is working with other softwares (winamp, media player classic)

  3. do you have more than one soundcard ? for example one internal stereo, and one 5.1 external USB ?
    or you have only one 5.1 soundcard ?

    I have just the motherboard sound, with coaxial 5.1 audio out to a surround sound amplifier. The MB is a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H. It's actually 7.1+2, with the 2 being a additonal stereo channel, but my amp and speaker setup is just 5.1. Vista handles audio a bit different than XP or earlier OSs, so it can get a bit complicated to set up. I have heard that some add on sound cards may not work properly with it.

  5. in my case, I don't use coaxial/SPDIF, only analog 5.1 output. may be you can test my files:

    simply put a headphone on your analog output it should work, it is not necessary to connect
    an amplifier and some speakers on it.
    if you connect your headphone on rear mini jack and ear nothing, you will have the bug.
    (or if you connect on front mini jack you will ear "rear annonce" with "front annouce")
