Has anybody been able to make a divx, avi, nero digital, etc movie with removable subtitles? I'm wondering if there is something I need to learn, or if this is a PS3 firmware issue. The latest firmware is 2.41, but way back when it was 2.2, that firmware supposedly supported subtitles.

I make my movies using nero recode and avi.net. These movies play fine on my PC and function properly with removable subtitles. They also function properly on a tivx box, which I have sold cause I thought my ps3 can do it all. However, when I play them on the PS3, and I've tested both directly from the PS3 hard drive and from an external hard drive... the videos are fine, but it says I have no subtitles.

So if there is a PS3 owner who has actually gotten a divx, avi, or whatever to function properly with removable subtitles, please chime in and give some advice as to the programs you used. And if you know for sure that this is a firmware issue and that there's nothing to do but wait, then please let me know so I don't continue to pull my hair out.

    Thank you in advance!

AVIAddXSubs is the answer! I'm not sure why, I don't know how... FYI, for those who might be in the same boat. If you made your avi's with .idx/.sub. Use this program... you can now turn on or off the subs in your PS3.

Okay, so half the problem has been solved. The half is that the majority of my movies are actually nero digital mp4's. They were encoded with subs using nero recode, so the final product is just a mp4 file, there is no separate sub files like the above scenario. Is there any program out there that can touch up these mp4s so the subs will show on my ps3?
