    hi im a newbie and i just got a QUE! burner its a 24x10x40 and its good and im about to buy a new dvd burner my cousin is getting it for me for my b day and i want to know:

    1: can you burn a vcd on a dvd burner?

    2: how can you easily convert an avi file to mpg because i downloaded TMPGEnc and it wouldnt convert it and im lost on what to do so plz help

    3: and do you know if a ps2 can play backed up dvds?

    4: and what is the ponit of getting a dvd burner?

  2. 1. If your DVD burner can also burn CD-R/W media, then you can make VCDs (VCDs are based on standard CD media, you can't burn VCDs onto DVD-R/W media).

    2. You can easily convert AVI to MPEG with a software MPEG encoder (e.g., TMPGEnc). However, if your source AVI is DivX, you can have some difficultly. I recommend that you extract the audio file from the DivX as WAV first (e.g., with VirtualDub).

    4. The point of getting a DVD burner would presumably to make your own DVD video discs (e.g., high quality home videos from a miniDV camera) and to make DVD-ROMs.
