    Hi Everyone,

Wondering if anyone can give me a tip on how to convert one particular .RMVB file that's tearing my hair out. The problem I'm having is not the RMVB format itself, but with one particular RMVB file that crashes every single program I used to convert it to another format.

I've tried the following programs on various computers and they all crash without fail when converting this rmvb file:

    - Mainconcept reference 1.5
    - TMPGENC-Express 4.5
    -Super Video Converter
    -MediaCoder
    -VirtualDub
    -VirtuabDubmod

I used MeGUI's avisynth script creator, opened the rmvb file but it doesn't seem to handle the file properly. It says the file is only 5mins when it's a 45mins video and it cannot preview this either. The generated AVS file cannot be used with virtualdub. The thing is, this rmvb file plays fine without any dramas using WMP, Media Player Classic etc.

    Thanx alot,

Finally I found a program that works. ConvertXtoDVD converted it to mpg2-dvd without errors or crashes when programs Avisynth and Tmpgenc express can't without.

Though I wanted to use a better program that gives better quality like tmpgenc, but it wasn't to be.

    Cheers,

    Hi,
I used the latest Avisynth 2.5.8RC2 as well as AviSynth 2.5.7. I used the "Avisynth script creator" within MeGUI 0.3.0.1020 to generate the AVS file but it couldn't read the rmvb properly, i.e could not generate preview or analyse source info. Though it did generate an AVS file which I could import into VirtualDub and Adobe Premier CS3, however the AVS file pointed to a blank 5mins video.

I was just about to give up when I though, what the heck, give ConvertXtoDVD a go and voila - perfect conversion to mpg2-dvd (VOB).

Thanks! I had been using version 2.1.8.193 and it didn't work with RMVB files, which is a problematic format for conversion. I upgraded to version 3.1.3.40 and it works a treat!

  9. For convertxtodvd generation 2, you need to put the real media .dll's in the directory manually (google for them, there are 4 files). Personally, I like version 2.x more than 3.x

I like version 2 better than version 3, too. I couldn't find the .dlls you mention for version 2. Here's what I could find, but the link to the .dlls doesn't work for me. http://www.cdr-zone.com/forum/about7348.html

  11. Here there are, put them in C:\Program Files\VSO\ConvertXtoDVD directory

Note it works 99% of the time, but sometimes you get a garbled image on a problematic file. Check in the preview window for each title you add if the screen is green/garbled.

The DirectShowSource() method with avisynth is almost guaranteed to work - even on problematic files.
