  1. I have an HP DVD100i ATAPI and an Plextor 24/10/40U USB CD-RW on an XP system. I have to use the USB because I use my box for video editing and have three HDDs. The problem: I am using the HP software, particularly the DLA (Drive Letter Access - drag and drop file capability) software and all works well with the DVD100i. However, even though the HP DLA software "sees" the Plextor, I do not have the ability to format or write to it. It reads fine. I know that I can use the two drives and this software together but cannot seem to get things to work. My question: Can I use Easy CD Creator on both drives (it came with the Plextor)? I wonder if I will be able to format and write to the DVD at 4.7g (not movies or anything - use mostly for data storage) with CD Creator? I have also purchased Nero 5.5 so I suppose I have all of the software alternatives available. Does anyone have any suggestions how to get up and running with this configuration using which software so I can write to both drives?

    Thank you very much.

    Hi,

First of all, with respect to WINXP, I would recommend using NERO - not Adaptec until the compatability issues are fully worked out. If you HAVE install Adptec, DO NOT install Direct CD.

If it all cause you a problem, create a dual boot with say 98SE on a small partition, that way you can use Adaptec DC. However, as far as I tell Adaptec will not support the capacity of DVD drives, only the Plextor and CDR/CDRW.

  3. Tommo,

Thanks for the response - have not been entirely satisfied with Adaptec in the past. Are you saying that Nero will handle both the DVD-RW and the CD-RW?

    Thanks,

According to the website www.ahead.de, the new version does, but the links did work for me, I suggest you visit and thoroughly check the site out. A download does enable a time limited trial though, and I can conform it works very stable under XP.
