Well, assuming it plays the same sort of video codecs as the iPod Touch, you could use ViddyUp, MPEG Streamclip, ffmpegX, QT Pro, iSquint, and a few dozen others. If you could provide the specs of the unit (or a link to them), we could be even more specific.

Not the same as the iPod Touch then. No H.264/AAC, no M4A. Only the look has been copied.

Basically, the unit expects "generic" mp4 which ffmpegX and MPEG Streamclip can do quite easily. You'll have to play around a bit but it should just take some time until you get it right.

XviD, DivX - they're similar. Just create a "standard" mp4 at 320x240 (or shorter height if the video might be wide-screen) and use mp3 for the audio. Watch out for too high a bitrate; might want to try 64kb audio while you play with the video settings. Once you get a video to transfer and play, then use the same video settings and increase the audio to 96, 128 and 160kb. See where it won't work anymore and then you'll know what it can and can't do.

I like the built-in speaker; wish my iPod had that. I hate using earbuds or headphones.

If you're attempting to do the conversions on a Mac for that device, just use HandBrake. Instead of wrapping the video in familiar QuickTime containers, it can wrap the generic MPEG-4 video in an AVI container (movie.avi) and that'll take care of it.

I must be missing something, i have Handbreak, ffmpegX and MPEG Streamclip.

Using the Quickstart scripts instructions with handbreak

    Quickest

First, double click on the HandBrake icon to launch the application.

A window will pop up, with a sheet in front of it. The sheet will ask you select a source. If you've already got the DVD ripped to your hard drive, navigate to the VIDEO_TS folder and double-click it. If you've put a DVD into your computer, choose it from the sidebar -- but know that this is not recommended. HandBrake simply cannot break advanced copy protection, not the way a dedicated DVD cracker like MacTheRipper will.

At this point you should be looking at the main window.

Now wait a few seconds while HandBrake scans the DVD.

When the scan's done, you'll see the Source information about chapters and titles is filled in.

By default, HandBrake will auto-select the longest title from your DVD. This is, most likely, the full movie -- the title you want.

Click the start button in the toolbar.

Sit back, relax, give your hand a break, and -- with a tropical cocktail within arm's reach -- wait for your movie to encode.

When it's done, you'll find it on your Desktop.
I still can't get it to play, i get i want to put my Penn & Teller collection (yes they belong to me bought off eBay)

Please help me , i should know this but i need help.

    Thanks

I went to handbrake's forum, one person told me this

Moving to devices... Handbrake will not help you with your AVI sources.

You are probably just going to have to do a lot of experimenting; I doubt anyone on the forums here has one of these.

    another person said

I'd try ffmpeg video (~500 kbps) and MP3 audio (128 kbps) in an AVI container. Resize video to 320 x X (depending on source aspect ratio) and you may have to drop framerate down to 20 fps.

Other than that, trial and error is probably your best option I'm afraid.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know it can't be that difficult to get the right way to do this.
I have been able to xfer music and pics but not video
One more note the avi's that came on this device, when played with QT i get one of those darn windows telling me im missing something i get no sound, i do when i run it thru MPEG Streamclip.

Im confused on what to do!!!

    HELP me rumplestiltskin

    Software you will need
    MPEG Streamclip
    ffmpegX

    1. Open video file in MPEG Streamclip and export the audio as mp2.

    2. Open video file in ffmpegX and choose xvid for video format.
Under audio tab uncheck encode audio.
now choose the ecoded audio file you created with MPEG Streamclip

this has been working for me.
