  1. Hi all,

Having been a member here for several years, I feel that I can trust many of you with honest opinions. Im planning a trip to Vegas for July. I have read tons and tons of info on different hotels (reviews and such) but am never sure of their authenticity. So, Id like to hear what you all have to say. Any hotels that you have stayed in? Any that you would recommend? Any that you would advise to stay away from (horror stories)?

Anywho, whenever you have time. Its not a rush at all.

    Thanks a ton in advance.

I've stayed at the Bellagio, the Venetian, and the Hilton Grand Vacations properties there.

The Venetian was pretty new at the time but already it was pretty dirty for some reason (not to mention several revelers using the canals for latrines). It's certainly interesting to visit and I'd recommend going to see it but I wouldn't stay there again.

The Bellagio is where most of our yearly conferences for work are held and they've always been a great host. I'd stay there for personal trips but prefer the Hilton properties as my status with them gets me a lot of perks I don't get from spending more at the casino resorts.

I'm sure there are folks here who have been to many more places, I'm just not much of a fan of gambling and really you can see everything but the casinos in a few days there so I've not gone back except for work outings.

Being from Canada, you're going to hate Vegas in July, unless you're looking forward to 105+ degree temperatures. Seriously, hot as HELL. We went in late June on our first trip and it was miserable. It never got below 100, even at night!

That being said, I've stayed at the Excalibur (it was OK, but really "family" oriented) and Treasure Island (now called TI).
TI was cool and had the best buffet I've ever been to in my life. We hit that buffet 3 times on our 5 day trip!
Good scenery too (as in hot chicks!).

I stayed at the Venetian, as well as many others. My previous company had regional meetings there almost every month, and the Venetian was tops as my preferred place to stay.

    I would also recommend TI.

  5. Thanks for the responses guys.

    Just a few comments:

Xylob: Yeah, I thought of that temperature thing lol But, another couple that I know essentially HAVE to go then and we were invited so, my hands are tied. Its not so bad ... casino's are air conditioned I plan on spending a good amount of time in there

As for places to stay, I certainly wont be staying at Bellagio or Cesears et al. I was thinking of the Imperial Palace as I have heard good things about that. But I will definitely check out The Venetian and Treasure Island.

Thanks for the suggestions and comments. I very much appreciate it.

If anyone else has anymore ideas, feel free.

Just to echo Xylob the Destroyer...
I've been there in July, and it is definitely not the place you want to be outdoor in. If you have to go outside, make sure you drink lot of fluids. The combination of dry air and heat will really take a toll on your body.
As for lodging, Treasure Island is a good place to stay. Make sure you go see some of the shows they offer at other places as well. Do go to the night shows and not the afternoon shows (since afternoon shows are considered "family" shows) whereas evening shows are more talored for aldults.
Oh, and stay away from the one arm bandits. If you wanted to play, craps and blackjack is my game. At least these games offer some what better odd than those one arm bandits.

No one arm bandits for me. I'll get a steady diet of Hold 'Em

If you go to the appropriate websites, you can probably also get some good recommendations on which Neveada brothels to visit as well.

  9. Do NOT stay at the Imperial Palace!!!!
Its great for $2 blackjack tables but that's it. The place is terrible to stay at

I've been to pretty much all the major ones, and for the price/quality, I always seem to stay at the Monte Carlo. Nice Price, Nice Rooms, Good Tables, Pretty darn good Food. Some of the best Fish and chips in their Monte Carlo Pub & Brewery too

I'm going there Mar 7th and will be staying at Hilton Gand Vacations resort for the first time, so I'll see what they are like.

My wife stayed at the Imperial when she went with her sister earlier this year and they said it was OK. Nothing special and definetly a no-frills stay, but nothing bad either...

  12. OK, just got back from Vegas last night

This was my last non-business trip to Vegas.
I haven't been to Vegas in about 6 years, and I'm glad
Prices for everything are just out of control. (Circus Circus the worst buffet in town as usual, now charges $20, Wynn on of the better buffets charges $35)
    Construction is out of control.
Caesar’s is no longer worth even seeing any more
Mirage's volcano waters is all torn up and not working
TI's pirate show is only 3 times a day now. All the shops and restaurants off the back wall are closed and under reconstruction

No more deals in Vegas. If you want to go shopping and pay outrageous prices for the stuff, Vegas is for you. EVERY casino has its own HUGE shopping mall now.

Don't even get me started on how much the shows cost now, and no discounts for toddlers either.

The monorail on the backside of the casinos that runs the full length of the strip, now costs $9
This isn’t the same one that are short stops from the few casinos (aka Mandalay ---Lexor—Excalibur)

The one bright spot, the Hilton’s Star Trek setup….Whole side of the building is setup as Star Trek and has a museum, ride, Quak’s bar, ships hanging from the ceilings…etc They even had guys walking around in character…Klingon and Ferengi. Museum and ride combo pass costs like $40. Can’t do the ride unless you pay for the museum….rip off

Last words....bring a crap load of money....not for gambling....just for everything else

The days of $5 prime rib buffets are indeed long gone.
The Star Trek Experience is the shit! If you're not a Trekkie, don't waste your time/money.
Check out one of those yellow buildings with the deals on tickets. They almost always have a deal on this show. When we were there a few months ago and got a deal on two passes for $45.00.

I lived in Vegas for about 5 years (just moved last July), and when I first moved there I stayed at the Luxor for about a week (while I was waiting for my house to close). It was very nice. i didn't stay in a suite, and still the room was great. If you are looking for someplace on the Strip, the Luxor was very nice. Went to Caesar's, and it wasn't all that nice - I think it's past it's time. Some friends stayed at the Venetion, in a suite, and it was pretty nice. If you are looking fomr someplace off the strip try one of the Station casinos/hotels (try looking up Sunset Station, or Boulder Station, and it will link to all the rest of them) - you'll have to drive to get to the strip, but they are pretty nice, and a lot cheeper.

And in July, expect temps in the 110's at least. August is the worst. They stop reporting what the high temp is after 1pm (they use that as the "high" for the day), and it usually gets to be the hottest about 4-5pm, usually about 110, maybe 115. I used to park my car outside at work, and at the end of the day it was well over 140 inside - broke my thermometer it got so hot. My neighbor had his CD's in one of those visor holders (big mistake) and came out of work one day to find them soft and ruined. So to get an idea of how hot it gets, think Hell with showgirls

  15. lol .. thanks for that man. Hell with showgirl lol Priceless.

Yeah, I realize its going to be swelteringly hot but that week is the only one we can all go at the same time (ie. myself, gf, two friends).

So, we have decided to stay at Treasure Island. It seems to be really nice, decent price, busy with activities, gotten decent reviews from people, and pretty well located on the strip. Hopefully it all pans out

Thanks for the info. Anytime tells me that they want to go there I'll remind them that I'm better off going to Atlantic City, or maybe Harrington, DE.

  18. I've been to Atlantic City 6 times and I can honestly say that I have never had a bad trip. Stays at Cesears, Bally's, and Taj Mahal have all been fantastic.

Admittedly, there ARE a lot of all you can eat buffets for $5 though :P

  19. Hey again,

I was looking at buying a cheap pair of binoculars for my trip. We are planning on going to see Cirque and Phantom as well as take a helicopter tour for the grand canyon. Be nice to get some close up views of those events.

I came across some binoculars that have a digital camera built in. I have never even heard of that but im not surprised to see it.

Here is the link to them: http://www.thesource.ca/estore/Product.aspx?language=en-CA&catalog=Online&category=2-3...roduct=2512754

Anyone ever use anything like this? Quality of build? Pictures?

    Thanks again all.
