First off, Ive been using super to convert my MKV files to AVI with great and easy results so far one question tough, As far as stuff that the ps3 will stream play Xvid is the best codec right? What bit rate should I be using, the same as the source video?
Seconded of, I have a whole bunch of DVDs I'd like to rip to play on my media sever. What is the best way to rip them to a .Avi file keeping as much as the quality as possible? Id also like to rip it in the way that the stereo audio channel is the default audio stream and the Dolby track is the seconded stream.
Thirdly, I have a few MKV files and a few AVI files with multiple audio tracks, How can I change the default audio track? As in the default track is Japaneses and the seconded track is English, I want the English track to be default, the reason being is when the PS3 is streamed media is cant select different audio tracks, it only play the default track.
Thanks for your time![]()

The bitrate used is directly based on the playing time and the desired size of the finished file. It would rarely be the same as the source video. But with Xvid, try the 'Target Quantizer' setting when configuring the codec and set it to about '2' and it should end up about the same quality as the original. If you can't do that in SUPER, try a better or different program.
Ripping DVDs is usually only the process of getting the DVD data to your hard drive. If you want a easy DVD to Xvid conversion, I would try AutoGK or FairUse Wizard. AGK is freeware. You may need to rip it first with a decrypter like DVDFab HDD Decrypter because of newer copy protection. AGK should be able to select the audio stream you want.
With AVI type files with multiple audio tracks, I usually open them in VirtualDub Mod, disable or delete the unwanted language stream, then do a direct stream copy of the audio and video. I don't know how you can set the video to make one language the default.

If you have VirtualDub installed and the Xvid codec, go to 'Video>Compression>Xvid>Configure'. If you L click on the 'Target bitrate', it will change to 'Target Quantizer'. Set it to '2'. Set the 'Encoding type' to 'Single Pass' and the 'Profile @ Level' to: '(unrestricted)'. That should give you about the same quality as the original file. I don't do many MKV>Xvid conversions, so others may have more info and better methods.
But that's where the codec controls are located, in the codec itself. It's similar with the Divx codec. I normally use VD Mod, but the latest version of VirtualDub have some good features. It's a worthwhile program to learn with a lot of options and guides available. Here's a method to convert MKV to Xvid with VD Mod, in case you wanted to experiment a little: https://forum.videohelp.com/topic241422.html But AutoGK would still be recommended for DVD to Xvid conversions. -
