I got a dvd player last night, and it plays back Divx supposedly. Does that mean I can just drag a divx video file over onto a cd-r/dvd-r and play it?

Yes, if the DivX is encoded within the specs of what DivX features your player handles.

	Divx Converter. VirtualDub. AviDemux.

Also be careful about burning the CD/DVD. Many players can't handle multisession discs. Use a DVD burning app like Nero Burning ROM or ImgBurn to make a single session, finalized disc.

...assuming the AVIs don't already contain DivX video. If they do, the only thing another conversion to DivX will essentially do is lower the video's quality.

(Note also that most set-top DVD players that can play DivX AVIs should be able to handle Xvid AVIs as well.)If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
