Yep, back again with a similar problem. I decided to see what Camtasia would do, so downloaded the 30 day trial version to capture a video segment from YouTube. It seems to have worked quite well. I've barely begun to use it. There are a couple of hitches though.
It first produced a .camrec file from the video I was capturing, and then allowed me to convert that to .avi, a 46M file. Then I took it into Vegas and cut a small chunk out and rendered it as in my other thread on "What is Vegas Doing with My Image?" This time I ended up with a 188M avi file, nearly 4 times bigger than the uncut file. What's happening? I used the Vegas avi with NTSC DV just like before. It certainly didn't do a direct stream copy.
Interesting, I just did a Property on both files. The original shows 24 fps rate on video with TSCC compression, and the shortened file shows 29 fps with DVCodec. The original had a 472x356 and the shortened has a 720x480. Hmmm, it doesn't look like a direct stream copy. If I want that, it looks like I may have to play with the Render and use Custom. So this isn't going to be so easy, but I would guess here is where VDub might make matters simpler.
On the other hand, Vegas NTSC DV may have done the right thing by stretching and changing the fps. Looking at the same frames in each avi shows they are pretty close to identical. I guess Vegas knows what it's doing. I think I'm about to learn something. Comments?
The audio bit rate got pumped up from 352kbps to 1536kbps, both at 16bit PCM. Interesing, but in this case I plan to use my own audio track.
