Hope I'm in the right forum, appologies if I'm not.
I downloaded a movie that was in 2 parts. The movie contained 6 channel ac3 sound. I joined the 2 parts using VirtualDubMod (1.5.10.2). The resulting avi (ac3 audio) file played fine. Again using VirtualDubMod I demuxed the ac3 audio. I then used WinAvi (8.0) to create an mpeg2 (mp2 audio) file again the resulting mpg file played fine. I then used TMPGEnc Tools to seperate the video and audio streams. Using TMPGEnc DVD Author 3 I imported the m2v and the ac3 streams. After creating the chapters I again checked the combined file and all was OK. I authored the DVD as normal.
Prior to burning when I played the DVD using Power DVD at the exact joining point of the movie the sound disappeared.
As a further test I created the same DVD using the mpg (mp2 audio) file I had created with WinAvi with exactly the same results at the joining point the sound disappeared.
I had another movie file with 6 channel ac3 sound on my HDD so I went through the same process with that movie and again at the joining point the sound disappeared.
Don't know if it's coincidence but both movies were by the same release group.
Any thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

So much screwing around, and WinAVI in the mix as well.

Simpler solution would be DVD Flick. Put both files in the same title and it will join them during authoring and keep the 5.1 audio.

After some more time consuming tests I've come to the conclusion that the problem lies firmly with the release group and how they produce the 2 part movies.
