  1. Hi,

I did some searching and see this problem pop-up here and there but there's no real fix that I found.

Simply, I'm trying to get an SVCD (tcf lor release) to XVCD format to play on my parent's sony dvp-ns300. It requires a bit of trickery into basically making the Sony player think its playing an xvcd that's actually an svcd.

One of the steps (in fact the first one, really) calls for the 'Simple Multiplexing' of the video file in tmpgenc. Basically you use mpeg tools to convert the video header from SVCD to VCD (atleast that is my crude understanding of what's happening.) Well whenever I do this, I get a consistent error in the same place which is "xxx s packets, buffer underflow. mpeg may not play correctly" where xxx is a numder and the conversion stops. I get about 4mb of my 800mb file. This only happens on certain files, 2 of the 4 for the lor release in fact.

Some posts implied that this error popped up but it did not stop the file from finishing, perhaps its because im using the newest (2.51) version of tmpgenc and they were using older ones? So is there someway to get tmpgenc to ignore this error? Or is there another program that I can use to multiplex the file?

I sincerely appreciate your help. Thanks for a great forum!

  2. From what I remember seeing, that is a prob with the newer version, try going back to 2.0 or previous.

"xxx s packets buffer underflow" means the VBV buffer size isn't correct.
You may try to mux with bbMPEG since you can play with the delay and muxrate there. TMPG wont give you that option. But there is no guarantee that you can correct it. Usually you have to care about the VBV buffer when you setup the encoder.
A good rule of thumb seem to be 112 (224 KB).
When you mux with bbMPEG, change the buffer size (video) to 224 or 230 and the muxrate to 0 (automatic)
    Hope it helps.
