Check to ensure you've enabled DMA

Click on Start> right click on my computer > properties > hardware > device manager > double click IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers > double click primary and or secondary IDE Channel > Advanced Settings > Transfer Mode > select DMA if available

I did that. They all are on DMA underneath it says

    current transfer mode: Unavaliable

says that from both on primary and secondary

OK, Thanks for that info. That DMA stuff was the easy part. Here are a few more questions to get us thinking...

Has this just started - did your DVD discs play OK before?
Have you made any recent changes to your computer (hardware or software installations)?
Have you done any recent codec pack installations?
Does this "choppy" playback occur when your DVD are played on a standalone "living room" DVD player?
Does this "choppy" playback occur with all your DVD's or certain ones?
What type of DVD's are they... DVD+-R, pressed manufactured "storebought" discs?
How long have you owned your DVD drive?
Do you have another DVD drive to test your disc with?
What type of drive / firmware version do you have?

Hm, what is your PC spec? You should be able to see your drive brand from device manager or sometime when the computer first boot up in BIOS. Make sure you upgrade to latest DVD drive firmware. Look here for firmware. http://www.rpc1.org/

if your IDE channel's current transfer rate says 'unavailable' i would go ahead and try uninstalling the secondary controller and reboot the computer. your current transfer rate should be 'ultra DMA' not 'PIO' or anything else.... give it a try

To open Computer Management, click Start, and then click Control Panel. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management. - right click on the secondary channel
