  1. i have to resize some avi (file size) and autoGK takes a long time to convert AVI to AVI (It does MPG to AVI really fast, but AVI to AVI is super slow). is there something else that might work better? i tried virtual dub, it's pretty slow too.

Try MediaCoder ... I have been using this software to reencode my avi's to to clear out gmc and qpel for standalone compatibility, and it's VERY fast! Relatively easy to setup for encoding, set XVID video encoder to NTSC (or PAL) Home Theatre profile and tell it to respect Strict Profile Conformation for standalones. Encode to AVI with LAME MP3 (or you can tell it to skip processing the audio and just use the exiting audio instead). Setting it up takes a few minutes, but then it's done ... import your avi & Start ... and off you go. If you set the XVID motion search precision to "wide", you can achieve excellent quality (better than I've achieved with AutoGK or using VDub, generally). I am very happy with this product, it has good support, and it's free
