ImgBurn is burning only half of my DVDs!

I have been converting .avi files into iso's using FAVC, and burning them onto DVD-R's, four episodes per disc (bitrate 3043, half-D-1). It takes FAVC like 8 hours to finish making the iso--so I have been delegating the task to multiple computers, since I only have one DVD burner.

here is the really frustrating part!!!!

imgburn works fine when i let FAVC open it automatically and just click "go" (well, actually a few discs have failed in the burn process, but for different reasons.)

but ALL of the discs that I burned after transfering them to the computer and opening manually with ImgBurn kill the last few episodes! The first and maybe second episode work, but the last ones dont! and the disc is obviously less than halfway done burning, you can see the area where it stopped. ImgBurn thinks everything was fine though!

Here is what I have been doing (i've been trying different things, so it might not be exact):

    1. FAVC creates "dvd 0.iso" (319,200KB) and a folder called "dvd 0" which contains "AUDIO_TS" and "VIDEO_TS".
    2. I open ImgBurn in write mode.
    3. I "browse for a file" and select "dvd 0.iso"
    4. (at this point it says "time: 35:30:00"???)
    5. I click the "burn" icon and it goes through the process "successfully"

what am i doing wrong? this is very frusterating as I have lost days and days worth of processing time making these isos, and many discs, and only have one DVD that actually works to show for it!

    FAVC creates "dvd 0.iso" (319,200KB)
    Sure it's 319.200 KB? That's 311 MB, not even 1/10th of a DVD...

aaah, i knew that couldn't be right!

I thought maybe it decompressed or combined the iso with the stuff in the folder. why is FACV making such small isos!

Why not just let IMGBurn create iso from your avi's ?

I've had some run-ins with FAVC stopping short when converting too. Never dug deeper, as I really have no reason to do AVI to DVD other than as an etude.

How big is the VIDEO_TS folder? If it's the correct size, then ImgBurn can use that just as easy as a .iso file. Just use 'Build' mode. If both the VIDEO_TS folder and the .iso file are undersized, then FAVC is doing something strange.

    That's what happened to me.

There is a general problem with FAVC which relates to Muxman/Batchmux.

It seems very sensitive to (what I guess are) bitrate spikes. It causes Muxman to quit with an error (check the muxman log in the working folder) saying that the dvd has been muxed but it probably won't play smoothly. In fact Muxman doesn't finish muxing the dvd and the dvd structure is not created properly.

The problem seems intermittent. For some source files it works okay and for others it will fail. Unfortunately, the only workaround is to lower the maximum bitrate until Muxman accepts the file.

I've tried contacting the author of Muxman and had no reply. The other free dvd author package out there that I know about is dvdauthor, and that is not without its problems too.

This is the type of error from the Muxman log

Video decoder buffer underflowed 5 times.
    Check c:\muxman.log for details.
Resulting DVD will probably not play smoothly.
The created dvd structure has no bups and a 0 kb ifo.
