  1. is there any way to change the video bitrate without re-encoding with TMPGEnc? i've tried multiplexing and de-multiplexing (with the setting as NTSC) and i don't want to re-encode!

  4. The bitrate is determined when the stream is encoded, so it can only be changed by re-encoding.

But why do you want to change the bit rate? If you're trying to reduce the size of the whole mpeg, you could "cheat" by re-encoding just the audio at a lower bit rate. In VCD, for example, the audio uses about 16% of the space. If you cut the audio bit rate from 224 to 112, you'd reduce the file size by 8%.

This could be done without re-encoding the video. I can't vouch for the quality of the resulting soundtrack.

i've just done the very thing tacosalad suggested. the movie was 128 minutes but encoded to an MPEG a little bigger than i expected. i demuxed the audio/video. the audio was 120Mbytes in size at a bitrate of 128kbps. after reencoding it with a bitrate of 96kbps, it was only 88Mbytes.

  6. i wanted to change the video bitrate because EZ CD Creator won't accept it...

would it go faster if i demultiplexed and reencoded only the m1v?
