Hi All,
I've demuxed some files I've downloaded from a Humax box using ProjectX, then cut with Mpeg2Schnitt. The video files have come out fine, but the audio has come out as *.mp files instead of the expected *.mp2. Playing them in mplayer or VLC gives silence.
Does anyone have any advice on what to do with the files?

Does projectx output the mp files? or mpeg2schnitt?
Try identify the .mp files with mediainfo and see if it can identify them. -
Hi,
The output from mediainfo is below
Format : MPA1L2
File size : 36.8 MiB
PlayTime : 1h 20mn
Bit rate : 64 Kbps
Audio #0
Codec : MPEG-1 Audio layer 2
Bit rate : 64 Kbps
Bit rate mode : CBR
Channel(s) : 1 channel
Sampling rate : 48 KHz
Resolution : 16 bits
Writing library : Xing (old)
I'm 99% sure these come from ProjectX. I don't think its ProjectX that the error has arisen from, because I processed another file just after with the same options that came out fine -

Hi All,
renaming the file doesn't make a difference. Opening the renamed file in mp3Cutter doesn't play anything, although there is a wave form there...
Does anyone have any further ideas? -
Hi,
I think part of my issue is that I normally run ProjectX from the command line and accept whatever the defaults are. That said in running it the same way I have had files come out in the correct mp2 format.
I'm guessing there is little that can be done with the *.mp files. Googling doesn't really come up with anything, and if mplayer can't play them then I fear all hope is lost! I'm happy to keep trying if anyone has any other suggestions - would be nice to have this as a reference for someone, but I am ready to admit defeat
Thanks

Once you open a file in VLC you can click Audio from the menu and see if the audio channel is set to track '0' or something else. VLC may be set to play the wrong channel. Your file is low res mono. VLC may be assuming stereo.
Can you post a clip (muxed) for one of us to play with? -
The track is set to track 1, with no other tracks available. Unfortunately I've since deleted the muxed files so I can't post a sample though.
I'll keep this post though and repost if I come across another file that does the same thing. I extract a fair whack from my Humax box so it shouldn't take long to get something if the error is repeatable
Thanks

Converting VOB file to MP4 file. Video is perfect, audio is nonexistent.
