Hi I have some old home movies on dvdrw which i copied few years ago from the camcorder. I burnt them with an old dvd recorder through the telly. The disc has become slightly scratched and I would like to copy it and save the files to the hard drive for back up. The files on the disc are VIDEO_RM folder containing .DAT, .IFO and .BUP files and a VIDEO_TS folder containing the .BUP, .IFO and .VOB files.
Initially tried using dvdshrink but received the error "Invalid dvd navigation structure"
I have also tried tmpgenc dvd author, isofter dvdplatinum and easyreader. these all seem to be having problems reading past a certain point. The closest i have got is tmpgenc 3.0 express which seems to read it but does not recognise the audio format.
Any suggsestions as to how I can copy the disc and save the files would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

If you want all of it, use DVD Decrypter in ISO-Read mode to create an ISO file, then use it again in ISO-Write mode to create a new copy. Or use Imgburn to burn the ISO file.
Or you could just drag the Video_TS folder to your HDD using Windows Explorer, then burn this to a new disc using Imgburn in Build mode.
If either of these methods have problems then there may be serious issues with the disc.Read my blog here.

Not only can scratches and stuff be a problem - DVD-RW and DVD-R often have read errors (not enough to throw a DVD player off its track, but) that makes most disk copiers go belly up. DVDFab Decrypter seems to be the most fault tolerant. But like guns1inger says, try DVDDecrypter first, then DVDFab if necessary.

thanks for the replies have tried dvd decrypter and managed to get to about 80% then it brought up in I/O error and couldnt read sector!!
Tried drag n dropping folder to hard drive but that also throws up an error and wont copy it all.
Have just used dvd fab and it seems to hAVE done the trick.
Thanks for the help.

Yes, even if DVDFab Decrypter is more fault tolerant, it doesn't mean it can read what other apps can't - just that it ignores the errors and continue reading on.
