I was reading a review of the Pioneer DVR-115, DVD Burner and came upon this statement: "One notable exception, however, was the missing connection for Digital Audio playback."
How do you get the sound if you cannot connect the audio wire? I hope this guy is dead wrong, as I have purchased one from Newegg.

I haven't needed any extra audio connections(of any kind) from my drives since my old Packard Hell computer....10 years ago?

You need to connect a redbook cable to your sound card to get sound. My Plextor has it and all other drives I seen have it. I see now, he says "Digital Audio", this is not the 4 pin red book audio which it must have.

Cable has not been required for several years. Audio now moves through the data connector.
AC-3, 2 and 5-channel, from files and DVD, as well as audio CD, play perfectly with no redbook audio connector whatsoever. SPDIF passthru or straight to speakers. Only thing I have not tried would be a SACD, but SFAIK no difference here, either. -
That is only for analog audio playback. You can press play on the DVD/CD drive and have it come through your sound card with out using a player. As stated above, it's old technology, not really needed anymore, since all recent audio players (made after Win98) can play and extract using the data interface.Originally Posted by pepegot1Linux _is_ user-friendly. Since there is no way to play the SACD disc layer on a PC, the only way to play SACDs on PCs is to play the audio CD compatibility layer, if the disc has it. In this case the disc is treated exactly as a normal audio CD and the SACD layer is completely ignored. So you can't really try SACD.Originally Posted by Nelson37
