My computer doesn't want to recognize my camera when plugged into computer. My friend said it had something to do with my drivers. If so could someone help me out here?

Depends on the kind of camera.

If it is MiniDV format with a FireWire connection, you shouldn't need any drivers.

What make and model do you have?

I'm not sure what to put here so I'll put what I think I need off the camera:

 Sony Digital 8
 DCR-TRV340

Your cam has a "firewire" output...
With windows OS no drivers are needed..
 Possibly a bad firewire cable??
Are you using the firewire ??
A computer won't recognize any cam using the USB port..
 That's for still photo's..

I'm using a USB, but I was able to capture into my old laptop with a USB cord. I don't have a firewire port in my laptop

On closer inspection I do seem to have a port that is labeled 1394, not sure what that is.

FireWire = IEEE-1394 = iLINK (just to confuse everyone!)

 IEEE-1394 is the official name
 FireWire is Apple's name
 iLINK is Sony's.

Apple initiated it and Sony, along with other big names in the electronics industry, co-developed it.

hoping someone will be able to help me. not quite sure where to post this question. i just used motion dv studio, a program that came with my camcorder. so far i have figured out how to transfer the video onto the program, index it and capture it, i am about to edit it now. but when i played back the video on the computer it was very choppy, unlike the original tape on the camcorder. did i do something wrong to make this happen? or could this just be a bad program to use? i dont understand why the quality is so bad. any help or advice is much appreciated
