Ihave downloaded some avi movies onto my elements h/drive off a friends cd discs and they play ok through the pc.As my recordable dvd player does not recognise the format, and will not play the films in this format, i was wondering if i can plug the hard drive directly into my LG 42" tv or into the recordable dvd player located under the tv(this has a built in hard drive also), to view the movies, or do i need special connecting cables or an additional component.I have checked both the tv and video for an input for the usb cable that normally goes into the pc from the ext h/drive, but neither have one.I have checked on various information websites, and some comment that it is possible to do this

I do not think this is possible. Your AVI file is most likely Mpeg4(DivX).
So if your player cannot play those files, than it will not work. TV itself is just a monitor.
PC software players have the drivers to play all kind of file formats, that is why it works there.

Thank you tinker for the information.I think i might have to buy a Divx video player to view the movies via the tv

You may want to get a Divx capable player with USB support. Then you can play the files from the USB HDD and without having to burn them on DVD's. Google is your Friend
