Looking for info on troubleshooting of video streaming

As I was trying to subscribe for an internet TV service, I encountered multiple problems, like, for example, I set RealPlayer to use UDP (and opened the router port), but when I put a sniffer the stream was still running over TCP, etc. Where I could find some information on how to troubleshoot all these issues ?

It is really weird, video streaming over the Net is not such a new technology, and still there seem to be very little understanding of the issues - tech support of this online TV service was totally clueles...

You would also need to ensure your firewall (OS based) is not blocking the traffic. I would start by turning it off.
