  1. hello we've been shooting hunting video on a sony videocam and save the file on my hard drive as a .wmv. I've been trying to convert to xvid to try and clean it up but seem to make the piture worse is there a trick and better program. I'm using nero 7 ultra. and also tried alltoavi. With no luck to either one. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

What format does the camcorder output? If it's DV over a FireWire connection, I would skip the WMV step as it seems unnecessary and will cause quality loss if you just plan to convert it a second time to Xvid. If you are using Windows Movie Maker for editing, output as DV instead, then encode that to Xvid.

Or do you mean it's a DVD camcorder? Then I would still skip the WMV step.

If I convert to Xvid, I use VirtualDub or VD Mod. It's also a editor and has quite a few filters available if you need them.

And this isn't authoring. Moving you to Newbie/General.
