  1. hi, I'm a newbie to the whole downloading and burning process...heres my prob

I'm running Vista and I'm using Windows DVD Maker to make the movies, at first it
was working fine with downloaded movies...as of late I keep getting errors and the
dvd fails to burn around the 99% mark...I've tried a few different things to no avail...

I was just wondering if Vista, being a new O/S, has a few glitches in it that is
preventing me from making copies of stuff I download...and is there a fix out there...

Can anyone recommend a better burning program

    thanks in advance...

    Welcome to VideoHelp!
If WDM is in anything like WMM, "glitches" would be something to dream of!
I suggest you try something like FAVC or convertx2dvd or svcd2dvd, or take a look under CONVERT left; ??? to DVD - I'm sure you'll find plenty of guides.

Depends on if you have a 64 bit or 32 bit CPU. If you don't know - go for the 32 bit version.

Of course, I think you also need to be running the equivalent version of XP or Vista (32-bit or 64-bit).

Yes, do try the 32-bit versions, first. Unless Windows specifically says it's 64-bit, you're most likely running the 32-bit version of Windows.

  6. tried to burn a copy of a movie I downloaded using 32 bit FAVC...but got an I/O error of some
kind...so that failed...beginning to think this is a Vista issue since nothing seems to be working
for me...I have read on other forums about problems burning with Vista as an O/S.

You have not provided any information which would point the finger strongly to Vista or any other cause.

Is your burner factory installed or an add-on? Maker and model?

What media are you using? Manufacturer and mediaID.

What video codecs are in your system beyond those Vista installed.

    Any information in log files?

What else is running at the same time?

If you problem was other than Windows DVDMaker I might possibly suspect Vista. But it isn't, so I suspect your media, your drive or Windows DVDmaker, or YOU in some manner.

  8. burner IS factory installed - LightScribe DVD SuperMulti drive /
CD Writer (what it says on front- not sure where to find other
    info)

I dont have any other video codecs on my system other than the
    ones that came with it...

media? not sure what your looking for there

don't recall the specific error in the log files...

nothing else was running while I was burning

it could very well be ME...like I said originally, I am a newbie...
