I have a Studio DV card, and to do what you propose, I assume, all you'd have to do is render it as a DV avi and then send it out to tape through the firewire. Some programs don't accept mpegs to edit with, so you might have to convert it. There is plenty of software links to choose from on this site. Hopefully it is that easy. With the divx, it's not an issue. I don't know what kind of firewire card you have, or how it works, but this would definitely be possible with Studio DV. The main issue here is the size difference. DV is 720 x 486 or something like that, and if the file you want to send out is smaller, it won't hold the resolution, since it will be expanding to fit that pixel size, and/or going from a de-interlaced digital file to inter-laced video, so it won't be as sharp. I know, I am rambling, but hopefully that makes sense to you and helps a bit.
