jerky playback after encoding

hi i have an xvid i converted to dvd.mpv with cce sp 2 and after encoding certain portion of the video is jerky and then went smooth when displaying on tv.. the xvid source plays no problem with vlc player... very smooth.. i used fitcd to generate a script to get the right resize aspect ratio to be displayed on the tv.. i been using cce for a couple of months and never had this problem before

Have you changed framerate ? eg. 23.976 to 25 fps, or 25 fps to 29.976 fps ?

no i leave the same framerate as the source

What is the fps of your source file and what are you converting to?

Run the mpv file through vdubmod and go to where you see this jerky motion. And advance frame-by-frame to determine what is causing this. If your original source has progressive original frames then your converted mpv file should be the same. No dupes no dropped frames.

If both pieces are progressive but somehow incompatible you can try to encode them in CCE to a single file instead of joining in VDub. In CCE SP (I don't use SP2 but maybe it's also possible) you can load the second file from edit template tab (through source setting browser). Try with short pieces (by trimming in the script) first.

An alternative way is to encode separately, then join them at the authoring stage.

Join them during the avisynth scripting stage. There are several ways to do this, but I usually just generate 2 separate scripts, then create a 3rd one and use the import command to join them and use that script for encoding. This will produce seamless playback at the joined area.

Yes, there are LOTS of reasons why.

First I would encode the two files seperately, burn to disk, and play. They will most likely play just fine. But you need to confirm this before chasing down other problems, this is especially important with downloaded or suspect-source files. RW disks are great for this.

Does the Jerkiness you describe happen EXACTLY at the junction between the two movies? That would be helpful to know, and gives kind of a Glaringly Obvious clue to the problem, Dontcha Think?

You were doing real good giving clear, concise answers, too. Don't fret, I too was a newbie once.

Check the files carefully for framerate, bitrate, audio bitrate and frequency, VBR audio, ANY difference AT ALL in either the source or especially the encoded files can definitely cause this problem. Easiest answer may be to simply put two movies on a disk, and join in authoring as mentioned, or even to just let one play after the other, with a short pause. If Joining is indeed the cause of the problem, an easy answer and possibly the ONLY one could be to Not Join.

For CCE SP:
Add the first file the usual way to the queue window, right-click on that line and go to edit window, set up the template for current encoding. Hit 'settings' button under 'input files' browser, this will pop up a window that looks like the star-up one (with the first file typed in). Right-click on it and you'll be offered to 'add'. This takes you to next file selection browser. All added files will be encoded to single output file (its path and name are already determined at adding the first file in the beginning).
Try to find smth. like this for your SP2 in the manual.
