Hi all, I've been browsing this site the past few months as I've become interested in video editing, etc. I've recently purchased a Canopus ADVC-110, ProCoder Express and downloaded the WinDV application for capture but have not installed either software yet. The authoring package I still have not decided on but with the help of this site Sony Vegas (full package) or TMPGenc are definitely possibilities for this.
What I'm looking to do is transfer old home VHS movies to DVD but adding menus, etc.
I'm upgrading my pc to begin the video capture/editing/dvd creation and had some questions which I was unable to locate the answers for.
First off, my basic pc specs are as follows:
Gateway 831GM Media Center PC (came as operating system only and no tuner card)
WinXP MCE 2005 w/SP2
P4, 3GHz
Intel 915G Express Chipset
250 GB 7200 rpm SATA hard drive (NTFS formatted)
1GB Dual Channel RAM
Second, I'm looking to add a 2nd hard drive (320GB Westerd Digital SATA). After reading the posts on this site and FAQs the 2nd HD should be used for all video capturing etc and one of the main questions I had was do I install my capture software to that 2nd drive or do I install to the main drive that holds the operating system?
I know this has probably been covered before many times but thanks for your insight.

You can keep all of your software on your C drive. The secondary drive is where all of the actual video files will be kept during editing/processing.
It may also be helpful to upgrade to 2gig of RAM.Google is your Friend -
