I am using Philips 5960/37 to play .avi file. It could not play some of the .avi file w/ saying "Video GMC not supported". I use Media Info to say the info about .avi. It shows that those .avi file is composed w/ GMC. What does "GMC" mean? do I need any updated firmware to play it? Thanks.

GMC = Global Motion Compensation. You will need to re-encode to remove it. He's a liar and a murderer, and I say that with all due respect.

usually how long will it take to re-encode a .avi file?Originally Posted by mats.hogberg

Anywhere from about 1/10 the running time of the video to 10 times the running time of the video. Depending on frame size, Xvid vs Divx, the settings used to recompress, the speed of your computer, etc.

On my system, about 40 fps processing speed using AviReComp.

Some examples with VirtualDubMod, fast recompress, single pass constant quantizer (3), output frame size equal to input frame size, input was Xvid AVI, both encoders set to 2 cores, Core 2 Duo E6300:

 624x352 frame, Divx 6.5x:
 fastest: 142 fps
 balanced (default): 105 fps
 insane: 33 fps

 624x352 frame, Xvid 1.2x alpha:
 default (MSP=6, VHQ=1): 34 fps
 slowest (MSP=6, VHQ=4): 25 fps

 320x240 frame, Divx 6.5x:
 balanced: 339 fps
