Why don't you just make an image file of the CD then from the image file burn to disk. No need to conver .dat to MPG.

  3. Use iether discjuggler or cdrwin to make an image file of the cd on your hardrive ,discjuggler is the better of the two for making images of vcd`s.

You might be getting the error as u r not actually storing the file u created as a vcd on the new cd but instead as data.
A program like nero burn will actually do the conversion for you if you want to make your own vcd from scratch ,you just drag and drog the mpg or dat file into nero and it does the rest, when u mastered it you can even add your own tiltle screen and menues.
