This might be a dumb question, but I have always wondered about this. I have a JVC SR-9911U which has one set of outputs, with both composite and s-video output and the left and right RCA audio outputs. Is there any reason not to use both the composite and s-video outputs at the same time (to different devices.) I have the s-video and audio outputs to my capture device, and the composite output to a TV monitor. Is the quality of the picture going out over the s-video affected at all, or could it case any other problems?

Rarely is this a problem. Most devices allow simultaneous analog output, it's usually the input (sometimes the digital out) that you must specify.
