  1. I've been getting ready to buy some new cdr's since I'm running a little low. I'd like to give Verbatim's a try since everyone is raving about them. The sites I've found are kinda expensive, so could someone send me to a site with low prices on 100 pks that ship to the USA?

Or Best Buy. But you'd be better off with the Fuji's or Sony's (the made in Japan not Tiawan Sony's) that you see at Best Buy or CompUSA.

  5. Sony CD-R media production are OEM'ed to a third party so you don't really know who makes any particular batch... same with Fuji I think.

It used to be better in the early days because there simply weren't that many CD-R production factories... A lot of cheaper media was actually made (for example), by Kodak.

However, this is no longer the case. Although a lot of cheaper media is still quite good, you are not assured of the quality between batches of media as the actual OEM producer may have changed. A lot of "brand name" media are actually OEM'ed to third parties and in my opinion, this makes them no better than your average cheapo brand (e.g., Sony, Imation, Philips, etc.)

The two companies that I know that still produce all their own media are Eastman Kodak and Mitsubishi/Verbatim -- and their respect brands of media (Kodak Ultima and Verbatim Datalife Plus) are both of excellent quality.

I used to buy cheapo brands too, but after being stung by a few batch of bad media, I prefer the security of using Kodaks or Verbatims. They may be more expensive but you REALLY don't want your VCDs (or any other CDs) to start to die on you a year or two down the track...

    Regards.

  6. I've heard good things about Fujifilm before so I looked for them at amazon.com here. 15$ for a 50 pack with a 4.5/5 rating sounds good to me.
