I've purchased the Pioneer A03 dvd recoder, and want to
redo a DVD I have. I have a DVD-R that was made by http://www.lifeclips.com, from a videotape I sent them.

I'd like to redo the menu system, with one of my own
    design.

How do i grab the mpeg2 files from this existing DVD-R?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  2. You can just use your standard rippers to do it.

Assuming that your VOB files aren't encrypted (since you made it), I believe that you can just copy the VOB files off the disc.

Thanks Michael, so i just use a ripper, and that is gonna
allow me to create menus using something like MyDVD or DVDit PE?

Thats what i've been using to make my DVD titles. I want
to get the MPEG file from the existing DVD, and make new chapter marks, etc.

I've never ripped a DVD before.

  4. Look, I have never done this before but to get the vob files off your DVD and onto your HDD (for editing/authoring with your DVD authoring proggies) you normally use a DVD ripper (e.g., SmartRipper or DVD Decrypter).

However, since you are using an existing DVD-R, I would assume that this was a self made DVD? If so, the VOB files are most likely not encrypted. If this were true, then you an just use Windows Explorer to copy the vob files off the disc and onto your HDD (i.e., you wouldn't need a ripper at all).

OK, i wasnt really asking about the 'ripping' part, but i guess i was not aware that my authoring program would allow me to use the VOB files, like I would an MPEG2 file.

I'm using MYDVD and DVDit PE version 2.5

  6. I have been struggling with the same thing! I burned a video and I need my original MPEG-2 files back! I was able to rip the VOB files, but I don't want them. I want the MPEG-2 file. I don't even care if it's Demuxed or not. The only way I can figure out how to get a MPEG file again is to use DVD2AVI with TMPEGEnc to re-encode the VOBs (.dv2) into new MPEG files. But I really don't think I should have to re-encde my files all over again and make the picture worse.

So if anyone knows how to get my original MPEG-2 files back please let me know! It was so easy to get my MPEG-1 files back from VCDs, I just can't imagine I can't take them back out of the VOB files.

winman32: you can use smartripper to demultiplex the video and audio(to a mv2 and ac3/wav/mpa file) so you can reauthor the dvd again...but i'm not sure that smartripper can copy unencrypted dvd but you can try...read the first step in this guide Vobsnoopy http://www.vcdhelp.com/DVD2DVD-R%20bigger%20than%204500%20megs/

or else can you use vob snoopy to demultiplex the vob or you can find some freeware command line tools at http://www.doom9.net that can demultiplex vobs also.

and you dont need to multiplex the video and audio again because that will the authoring application do.
