    Hi all. Noob here.

Using Nero 6.3.1.25 on a Thinkpad T60p laptop with a LG GSA-4083N dual layer 2.4x burner. Single layer DVDs play fine in my standalone Panasonic DVD-RP62 player (movies shrunk with DVD shrink).

However, Dual Layer movies will not load. When the tray on the Panny closes, the player tries to load the disc, but just whirs and whirs. The same discs play fine in the laptop.

So here's the paradox: When I connect and use an external burner (NEC ND-3550A) to the same computer, using the same NERO software with the same settings, and the same media, the resulting DL DVD plays just fine in the standalone player.

So, it's definitely a problem with the Thinkpad's internal burner, right ???

What are the chances it would perform better *if* I am able to update the firmware, driver, or even update NERO or one of its components (like Wnaspi32.dll) ???

    Many thanks!

    Try burning with ImgBurn

It seems to work better than NERO when burning a DVD Video disc especially dual layer media.

Also what DL DVD+R discs are you using? The prevailing feeling among many here is that the only DL DVD+R discs that work well are the Verbatim brand. Other brands seem to be sub-par and are very "hit or miss" when burning.

Ridata, although I have a new short stack of Verbatims that I will try. But I am skeptical that it is the media. I now have a handful of Ridata DL DVD+R's that play fine in my standalone player, but not one of them was burned on the Thinkpad's internal LG burner. They all came out of my NEC external.

I will try ImgBurn and report back. Thanks.

  4. It's the burner, if it was the software, then the external drive wouldn't work any better.

I went through a similar process with a desktop computer. Using the same spindle of media (Memorex by Ritek) I couldn't get a playable burn on +R DL media. until I changed the burner from a Pioneer to a LiteOn. Then using the same spindle of discs, same install of software, same source files and same process every disc works.

I tried Nero 6.6.1.4, DVD Decrypter, & ImgBurn. No go until I changed drives. I had random discs out of various spindles of various brands that the Pioneer refused to burn, brands like Verbatim, Sony MIJ etc., so I put them aside and I've been using them in the LiteOn and they are working good.

Plus I suspect that in the miniturization of the burners for laptops thay aren't as robust as a decent desktop brand. Ever notice they seem to be slower drives? Part of that is power consumption and cooling of course.

And to add to the confusion you may find that the Verbatims work perfect in the laptop drive. Why? Many drives work better with some media than other media.

To be honest the Ridata are not top quality either. I had the ones I had becasuse they were on sale and I wanted to try DL media.

Using the LiteOn the Memorex DLs even work as Data discs (Divx & Xvid) via Nero in a Phillips player and for movies on DLs via DVD Decrypter ISO read/burn process.

    Cheers

I didn't know what that was until I read your post ond Googled it. Will study the FAQ's. Thanks. Eager to give any reasonable option a try.
