after UNinstalling ffdshow, default codecs disappear

Hi,

I have a problem here and was wondering if anyone could help.
Basically i uninstalled ffdshow codec, and realised later that all my other codecs (default - microsoft etc /undefault) are no longer being detected. I'm not sure if they are still installed or are already lost in the process.
But even after reinstalling ffdshow, my codecs list only shows ffdshow.
And for online streaming videos like youtube etc... there is no audio.
I can only play offline videos properly.

So may i know what's the problem, and if there's any way i can get back all my default windows codec?

You can use codecsniper to browse and cleanup your existing codecs.

You could reinstall the wmv codec package from microsoft. As for any other codecs, just reinstall what is needed when you have a use for it.

A while ago, I had a similar problem with codecs that stopped working. Filmerit (http://paul.glagla.free.fr/filmerit_en.htm) was able to repair them all in one shot. A little confusing to use but it did the job.

When uninstall FFdshow-20060803-rev2546 (drevil_xxl compilation)... delete a key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]
from system registry.

Create .reg file and import to registry:

Reinstalling the default codec pack from microsoft also corrects all of the default codecs.
